Fun thing with NTL support is you either get it sorted first time or it takes ages  - I've been lucky and got things sorted first time with them the couple of times I've needed to call them.

it is interesting the change the new speed gives, not much difference on browsing though it is noticable.
Nothing like the change from 50kbs to 512kbs though.
Just need to kick off some big downloads like a linux distro or something.

That's when ye'll really notice the difference Jema
I was impressed enough with the speed large games patches +/or mods downloaded when I first moved from dial-up to broadband,... then with the next jump to 1Mb... but I was/am quite frankly amazed at the speeds I got/I'm getting with this 2Mb connection
I still dream of 8Mb though :D

I got a letter from ntl today:
In July, the speed of your Broadband connection will increase from 750K to 2Mb - that's nearly three times faster!Looks good so far... :) At the same time, we are withdrawing some Broadband offers, including the discount for customers who provide their own cable modemOh-oh... :( This means your new 2Mb service will be £24.99 per monthi.e. a 25% price hike  In recognition of this price change, we will increase your speed by July, but not change your bill until August... my billing date is the 9th of the month, so no great deal there ... Also, if you ever have any problems with your modem, we'll replace it free of charge
Whoopee doo! That makes it alright then! I've had my modem for nearly five years, so it is bound to go wrong soon...

@ GS: I'd say a fairly modest 25% hike in price, is a fair exchange for a very respectable 75% hike in speed

I am pragmatic about it, I got 5 years ish of service from my modem, which is £2.50 a month, so I saved money.

It would be if I wanted the download speed increase, but what I could really do with is an increased upload speed and there is no mention of that happening :sigh:

It's of no consolation I know, but most ISP's follow the same pattern - certainly up to and including 2Mb, in that upload speeds are restricted to 256kbps :(
Even though I've now got 2Mb meself... my upload potential has remained the same as it ever was @ 256kbps
I honestly don't know what it involves... but hopefully that'll be the next thing the ISP's look at/reconsider, as the UK moves toward 100% broadband coverage ;)

256kbps would be nice - my connection currently measures at around 120kbps :(
(although I do get 8Mbps upload speed at work... :cunning: )

I think basically they do not want you running servers.

I thought downloads were running pretty quickly yesterday, so I ran a speed test.
Yep, I'm on 2MB down / 256K up
Looks like 'in July' meant 'in the last couple of days of July'
Ah well, at least I can enjoy 10 days of 'free' upgrade before my next bill...
