I am about to order two of these drives and run them in Raid on my Iwill but what I really want is a ATA-133 Raid card has anyone seen any of these yet. Just for the curious here are the highlights for the drive.

The industry's highest areal density-40 GB per platter

7,200 RPM rotational speed

Maxtor-developed Ultra ATA/100/133 interface

8.5 millisecond average seek time

What I did notice was that there are two models in the D740X series

The 40gig that you are looking at would be either 6L040J2 or 6L040L2

The L close to the end means (Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motors) I havent found out what the J stands for tho and also cant find this model online as of yet (6L040L2)

** The letter "L" contained in the model number denotes that this drive was manufactured in Japan with a Fluid Dynamic Motor.

Maybe they kept that model in Japan,I entered that number in at the Maxtor Buy Now and it came up (No products were found)

I know Highpoint have a ATA133 chipset ready....it's on their web site, but I don't think any cards or mobos based on it have been released.

btw, the maxtors seem great, not sure if the fluid bearing versions are around, but check out www.storagereview.com ....look at the leaderboard, they rate them HIGHLY!

These new Maxot ATA133 drives SUCK. I have a KR7A Raid and I get better benchmarks with my old ATA66 Maxtors. :( Plus these new 133's sound like a rock crusher, I can hear them over my 7000rpm Delta fan in a Lian-Li case with 5 other fans running as well. Dont waste your money on these drives, I am going to RMA mine and get my money back.

Hi guys,

Sam's Club has WD 100GB ATA-100 HD for $219.99, but it came with a $100 rebate. SO that mean you can get it for $$120 each. I got one and wait on second one to be avaliable. Only one per address so I ask my friends to use his address for 2nd HD... Just check with your local Sam's Club for detail...

The information is TRUTH!! Because I got one at home with me know...but you have to wait for thme to send you the damn rebates...

I used one of them things in a computer I built for a friend. And indeed, they are quite loud. Plus, they run hot, a lot hotter than my IBM's. 51°C idle in a closed case. My Ibm's don't even near 40°C.
