>News< Commentary for Sunday, August 3rd
Hello, and welcome to the commentary for Sun Day! Our current team position is shown as 77, with 510,115 units, and 706 for the day. We gained on Hardware Upgrade, but Team Canopus, Team Denmark and Seti Alpha AU all outpaced us. We must continue the push for adding new members and revitalizing existing ones so we can forge ahead. Ever onwards and upwards, Ninjas!!
Apparently there has been a cool wave in the northeast US and our top star has gently touched the w00t throttle again, showing a piece of his firepower and helping us move. Thanks, David Whitney!! :)
We have no STOMPS to report, so on to the awards.

You got it, when it cools off its OK to crunch, of course now we have thunderstorms predicted for the next week. Hope I don't end up with Dr. Who's water problems <grin>

:D But a chap answering to the description of NOAH just rowed by...
But I guess that's "Profiling" and it's not PC to do that...
`but he "was" rowing fast... something he mumbled as he went by:
"how does He expect me to get two of every thing...." :xpenguin: :xpenguin:

Another great :read: Hog - thanks for that.
Our temperatures here in the UK are getting ridiculous. The forecasters reckon tomorrow will break the all-time record for hottest day, and probably hottest night as well.
I've had to stop crunching altogether on my main rig (the one that runs the Team Q and the Dnet proxy) just to make sure it doesn't "fall over" and leave people unable to connect.
I have one rig crunching (it's a stock speed with a very big HS/fan), but even it is getting borderline on temps (CPU temp 62C, case temp 49C), so I may have to stop that one as well. :(
ROLL ON WINTER! NO MORE :sunshine: NOT EVER!

Meady, it sounds as if you should arrange a trade with Doctor Who for some of his cool rain, since he REALLY NEEDS some of your dry heat and has more than enough water to trade!
I'll try to put in a good word with the Big Guy when next my prayers are made.
Until then, thanks for your continued efforts to better our team even under adverse circumstances. :)

That's a great idea, Hog. Care to trade places, Doc?
Seriously, I have managed to undervolt one rig and it's crunching again, albeit much slower than normal ( ) but hey, a 3 hour w00t is better than no w00t at all. :)

I remember throwing a party when I got down to a 3 hour w00t.

Farley's right. And fully half of my rigs are 3h30m or so at best for each w00t.
It's very hot in Texas right now, but my house has central refrigerated air conditioning, so the little Daleks don't have strokes or heat embolisms.
And yes, the electric company loves me! :(

I remember my first ever w00t - it took 28 hours (on a Cyrix 300MHz) using the dear old screensaver. I remember watching the pretty lines scrolling down the screen, not realising that those very graphics were lengthening the crunching time!
My best rig (currently not crunching because of the heat) crunches a 0.417 AR w00t in 1 hr 57 minutes - how things have progressed in 4 years. :D

:D Out of the 22 units I did at work, one took over 100 hours, I think it was 148 hours to be exact, but that was back in 1999, and I don't remember so well... but I do know it was over 100 hours.... The longest one I've ever done... 'course my employer's computer's were pretty much door-stops back then... once we started up grading, that's when they started firing anyone running SETi on a gov't machine, and that's when I stopped, as food was more important to me, then the SETi stat tree.... doc

I won't crunch SETI on anything lower than a Athlon XP 1500+ Its not worth the time and electric. Cuz my parents still pay the bills. lol
