Dnet update for 16-Jul-2003 to 19-Jul-2003
So … I guess it’s time for me to put together an update in Dnet since I haven’t done one since before I left for England. Here’s the short form: In RC5 we continue to fall, in OGR-25 we continue to rise steadily, and in OGR-24 we are continuing to show that we are a major powerhouse that only the Dutch Power Cows can afford to ignore.
Long Form – We’ll just concentrate on OGR here. In OGR-25 we continue to be very steady, consistently placing somewhere in the neighborhood of #50 on a daily basis. This is leading to a rise of 1 to 3 places everyday. The biggest news here is that we are now less than 100,000 Gnodes away from the goal we have had since the team was formed … to overtake Picard. At current production levels, we should accomplish this within the next week and it will be time to finally select a new target (preferably, a moving target, ). Excellent work on the part of all concerned!
OGR-24 – Though this report covers the last four days specifically, I think it deserves to be mentioned that since the last report, the team has risen two more places, up to #18. However, the really big news is that this project is finally drawing to a close. The distributed.net site reports that this project is now 98.01% complete. This means that there will be no more large batches of stubs released (if, indeed, there are any more released at all!!). It’s time to make the final push and see just how far we can rise as a team. I believe that we can make a total of 2 million stubs and take 14th place.
Sooooo … let’s make sure that each and every one of us has verified that all of our boxen have been cleared of any OGR-24 stubs that might still be hanging about and not yet crunched and/or returned to Dnet. I know that Hawkeye’s proxy has been cleared of 24 stubs. Meady’s proxy is not currently giving 24 stubs but there is a chance that there may be some buried in there (not sure of how many Meady has is OGR cache set to, but it’s possible that he has some in there that were acquired during the recent burst of 24 stubs but that have not yet worked their way through (Correct me if I am wrong Meady, but your proxy tends to go through stubs slower than Hawkeye’s). Last I saw, TGC’s proxy still had OGR-24 stubs to give (but again, I don’t know how many stubs TGC has configured his proxy to keep for OGR, or what his usage is (care to enlighten us TGC?). Finally, during this last go around, I created a proxy for my internal network and I know that I still have stubs. Whether I can make them available externally via IP is an open question (I don’t have a static IP), but I can certainly create buff-in.ogr files that I can send via email.
Beyond that …
On July 11th, Longest Highway had an awesome dump in OGR-24 and in the process she crunched a quartet of victims (Shalidar, Fallguy, wylie, and Ragnarog)!!. On the 17th, Sydney Freedman also had a crunchfest and took out Farley, Jed, and Patrick Parker! On the 18th, Debbie Parker (our most recent member in RC5-72) crunched Shalidar in that project!) It looks like it was a week for the girls to put us guys in our place, so I am awarding them jointly the POD for this report!
>POD< - Longest Highway – for putting the guys in their place! (>StompMaster< as well!)
>POD< - Sydney Freedman – for putting the guys in their place!
>POD< - Debbie Parker – for putting the guys in their place!
One last note … putting 24 and 25 together … we have passed 4 million Gnodes … very
