I realize that I've just recently returned to crunching RC5 and OGR ... but I just have to say that your website and proxy are just great. I've finished converting over everything to use the proxy.
Thanks a bunch!!!

Um,
not to sound a little slow here (oops, too late!) but what stats website? The only RC5 site I know of is the dnet page, which only updates once in a blue moon.

I'm not up to speed on these mathematical proggies, but do you have this link (http://rok1.dyndns.org/rc5stats/) FG?

Um,
no I didn't, much obliged. I am curious as to why Terminator has an American flag next to his name, though, and Nanobot too! ...... ;)
How does this stats page work, if the central stats thing doesn't update until midnight? Do you have to be using the proxy for the stats to register on this page or something?

Fallguy,
I can change the flag, to whatever country or picture for that matter that you would want. Those stats are generated by using my proxy. you are quite welcome to use it at your leisure, directions for seting up your clients is in the FAQ. If you are having trouble with it, let me know ill lend a hand.

Thanks Hawkeye,
I am using your proxy server as of about an hour ago.... very nice it is too! ;)
A question for you - my clients are spread across 4 machines that are networked, but only 1 has internet access via a modem. Is it possible for me to set up a proxy on my machine with internet access, so all my other clients dump their work there, which would make uploading alot easier than copy and pasting....?
My internet machine is running Win2K Pro, if thats any help, I know LinearB (or possibly LinearA, or maybe even Ben Rail, its difficult to work out who you're talking to at times, lol) mentioned he has something set up so the clients automatically dump whenever he connects to the internet.
Cheers,
Fallguy

yes, you can setup the same proxy on your Win2k machine, and it will autodetect when it is connected to the network and upload/fetch units.
You can download the proxy here:
http://http.distributed.net/pub/dcti/proxyper/proxyper333-win32-x86.zip
if you look at the manual.htm that is included with the archive, you will notice a set of settings regarding the [Keyserver]
It is here that you will point it to my proxy.
the ini file will look something like this
[Keyserver]
ipaddress=rok1.dyndns.org
port=2064
connectivity=lurk
***NOTE*** that previous setting might cause your modem to autodial. If so change it to "lurkonly"
That should be enough to get you started. i can answer any other questions you might have.

Thanks for the linkage Hawkeye,
it will be nice to have hassle free distributed computing for a change........ combined with near real time stats that actually update faster than DF does! :D
All I can say is I am damn glad you are on my team Hawkeye! :thumbsup:

Right,
another silly question - I have set up the proxy using the options above, and reconfigured my clients to connect to the proxy. I can upload completed work to the proxy, but it keeps saying "perproxy has no work" to me and fails to download new Woots, and doesn't seem to have uploaded the work from the proxy to the rok1.dyndns.org proxy either...... ? Any hints with this?
Each client currently has about 1000 WUs cached locally (and I would rather keep it that way), but I would like to be able to dump and upload work to and from the proxy rather than have all the work cached at the proxy end (the proxy is my work computer, which I do have to take away with me on occasion, so it won't always be available).
Any way to do this?

Oh,
now I've got it - switched to lurk mode from lurkonly.
But now it seems to be giving me OGR stubs, even though none of my clients are crunching OGR..... ?

Fallguy.. I just downloaded the win32 version of the proxy (the one on my server is linux) and changed those 2 settings that i told you, fired it up and this is what I got:
[2003-02-23 16:32:35] Uplink: [1] Server is running version 333.
[2003-02-23 16:32:35] Uplink: [1] Got permission acknowledgement.
[2003-02-23 16:32:35] Uplink: [1] The perproxy says: "[pp] Hawkeye's Team Ninja
RC5/OGR Proxy!"
[2003-02-23 16:32:21] server: Queueing rc5-72 request.
[2003-02-23 16:33:02] server: Queueing ogr request.
[2003-02-23 16:33:02] server: Received rc5-72 packet CA:480FEE4D:00000000 iter 1
[2003-02-23 16:33:22] server: Received rc5-72 packet CA:480FEEC5:00000000 iter 1
[2003-02-23 16:33:22] server: Received ogr stub 24/15-1-34-3-8
another bit from the onscreen console:
2003-02-23 16:34:30] rc5-72 r=20/20, d=0/3, 0.0 Mkeys/sec, tot=0/0 blocks
2003-02-23 16:34:30] ogr r=20/20, d=0/3, 0.0 Mnodes/sec, tot=0/0 stubs
So it indeed does work from my gf's computer. So lets see what we can do to fix yours up

It seems to be connecting and uploading fairly well,
but is there any way to increase the cached options on the proxy? I normally dump a few hundred at a time, because my internet connection is only on during evening and weekends.

Ok the answer to the OGR question is that OGR is enabled in your INI file.
[ogr]
logfilekeyblock=pproxyogr
logfilekeyblockrotation=daily
minkeysready=10
maxkeysready=20
maxkeysdone=3
There is no way to disable it as far as I can see as it will remove
contestclosed=1 when the proxy starts up.. best way to deal with this is to change the minkeys and maxkeysready to 1 and just ignore the rest.

yep those changes can be found under the [RC5-72] section
[rc5-72]
logfilekeyblock=pproxyrc572
logfilekeyblockrotation=daily
minkeysready=10 <-----this is the MINIMUM you want available
maxkeysready=20 <---This is the MAX
maxkeysdone=3 <--Change this to 1

Ah,
cool. I've set maxread and minready to 500 and 400 respectively, does that sound reasonable, given that a days work is around 350 to 400 now I have 4 Athys crunching?

Well if you conenct once per day, that is fine, if you cache for a week, you might want to increase that some.
There is another command that will tell it to actually use what you tell it to use
under the rc5 section add
expertmode=1

Ok,
cool I will expand this - but I am also caching at the client end, so the proxy cache shouldn't need to be that big I would hope.... ? Each client has 1000WUs cached, 4000 total, which is good for 8 to 10 days of proxy-less crunching.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get past Stargazer...... :D

LMAO! Actually, the Armada is dispatched
all over the DC galaxy! If you've 8 Athy's
running then I'm no match currently. I do
have some speed on the flag now that I
just bumped it to 200fsb;) I'm down a bit
now on the GHz dept to about 20GHz or
so and in need of a new #2 with it's
recent departure.
