If you're tossing an old hard disk in the trash, don't think that a simple reformat will erase all your personal data from the device. According to a recent study by Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) students, discarded hard disks--including many purchased from eBay--are bursting with all kinds of personal information, including medical records, personal correspondence, email, credit card numbers, and pornography. So how can you ensure that the data erased from a hard disk is really gone? We're still trying to find out.
