Ninja Chatroom

I've installed a chatroom (http://www.ninjamicros.com/chat/) for everyone to use.

For now, until we gauge the popularity of it, there's just one community room, and no registration is required.

Just enter a name then hit the chat button on the bottom of the box (bypass the password field)

If we see it gets a lot of use, I'll add different rooms per request, and will integrate it with the Vbulletin user database to avoid being registered twice on the site.

So, give it a whirl. Be sure to report any errors to me. I'll be putting up buttons from the forum pages and homepage to access the Chatroom.

PS) Clicking the logo on the chat entrance page will take you back to the NinjaMicros homepage.

Just a quick couple of notes.. if after you enter the room you get a blank white screen, just hit refresh on your browser to re-load the page.

There's also a bit of a bug with this script and some AOL browsers. If you're using AOL and can't access the chatroom.. you might want to use Internet Explorer for this, if you have it. It's really hard to find a chat that supports all browsers and proxy servers.. but this one is probably the most user friendly one available, written in php.

LOL, well we had our first chat tonight, what a riot :rofl:

Another note: If you click the question mark to the left of the text box while you're in there it will bring up a window of different commands/features you can use in the chatroom, like private messaging and smilies, etc.

Also, if you click the link on the entrance page of "There are currently 'x' users in the chat" it will show you who's in there before you go in.

Okay, chatroom button added to the header in the Neo Ninja style set... I'll do the other templates over the weekend, 'nuff code for one night :p

This is fun. And a good alternative to the series of PMs when you need to have a back and forth converstion,. and you don't care if everyone else sees.

Shame Nemesis2 left our seti team, He wanted a chat type facility and was dissapointed at our previous lack of enthusiasm over on blasts IRC channel, he would have enjoyed this I am sure.

Wonder what you lot have up your sleeves for the next 'announcement' :D

I was thinking it would be nice to have something show up on NM home page or main NM forum page that shows who is in the chat room at any time. THis way you could check if the person you need is there without having to logon to chat.

You can see who is chatting if you click on the chat link and click on the link that shows how many users are logged on. You have to go to the page but not logon.

Okay, I see what JD is saying.. to have the chat who's online show somewhere on the forum index or homepage without having to go to the chat entrance page first. Might take a little hacking but could prolly be done ;)
