Well,
having recently bought an MSI K7D Master from a certain online store, at the recommendation of folks from this board, I happened to glance at their reseller-ratings...... and they score a stunningly low 3.24/10!
I have to confess that I haven't had any problems with the order I placed - it all works fine. But had I known the companies reputation in advance I would have avoided them like the plague, and used another supplier.
For those who are interested:

Makes for very frightening reading - if the kit I bought had arrived bust, I would probably never have seen any return for it. Given that I ordered over £200's worth, that would have been a serious kick in the proverbials... :(
I would strongly recommend anyone who buys online have a serious look at this site. I've got it bookmarked already.

Well I have used Scan twice now and I am quiet pleased with their service (allthough I haven't had to use their after sales yet).
Now Ebuyer  dont get me started :D

I have never had any trouble with them. Goods have always arrived very quickly. I guess only people with bad experiences bother to reply.
I am in the same boat. Never had to send anything back (touch wood)I have heard bad things, but then heard bad things about most places.

They're 'scaremongers' Fallguy :D
In their defence however... Scan have actually got quite a bad reputation in a few forums I visit, but I've personally never had any trouble wi' em really (just lucky?) I'd suggest that at least some o' those who complain about them may simply have received a better service in one way or another from another retailer/reseller... rather than had a specific complaint against Scan? But then why [/SIZE]shouldn'tthey expect the same level service as the better/best retailers/resellers out there ;)
I've personally bought thousands of pounds worth o' gear off them over the years - no full systems, but certainly more than enough components t' make up one or two full rigs (including cases)... plus a great many external peripherals (speakers/monitors etc), and the only problem I've had in that time was in trying t' cancel part of an online order. And the only reason it woz a problem that time, is coz it woz the weekend o' HM The Queen's Jubilee, and they'd given everybody the weekend off, so there woz nobody t' answer my emails or phone calls. As soon as they returned, it woz sorted out ;)
So I'd say those customers who've written in t' that site complaining are probably among the minority of Scans' undoubtedly large number of satisfied customers :)
[edit]/BTW: no.... I don't work for, nor get commission off Scan :D

Heh,
lol@annihilator.... :D
Yeah well I figured that most of the folks who search for and post at these sites are the "dissatisfied" ones, however it does mean in future I will limit the size of my purchases to that which I can afford to lose, and buy most (if not all) of my stuff locally through a shop where I can get refunds and/or replacements without climbing through a burning hoop first..... lol!

Hi FG
I have also been buying from them for bout 2 1/2 to 3 years now.
Had only one prob, an that was in the first 6 months, some ram from today only page as well.
Anyway, they changed it , an no more prob.
I was told the same thing beware, people called them scam.
But touch wood, I am more than happy with them.
I would never mention a store if I has probs with them, It seems like the luck of the draw in some cases.
I use ebuyer alot and have heard horror stories about them as well.
If I took notice of all the horror stories, I would have no one left to deal with :p

Heh,
well I find the horror stories interesting, to say the least. It just kinda reinforces my desire to stay away from on-line commerce as much as possible..... :)
Besides, I can usually get the items almost as cheap from my local store - its only the rarer items (such as the MSI board) that I will buy online.

I haven't actually bought anything from Scan, but their Daily offers do tempt me sometimes :)
Do they still charge silly money for P&P? That's one of the main reasons why I haven't used them. By the time you include that (and the VAT on it), it's usually cheaper to go to Dabs or somewhere like that.

They do but sometimes they still work out cheaper especially if a couple of items take your fancy and you order them at same time. I also find dabs to be pretty expensive these days cant remeber about their delivery charges, it's been a while.

Hi Guys
I would do the same FG if I had a decent shop local, its the best way by far.
Bursar scan's today only stuff is cheaper to buy, than from dabs.
I used to use dabs, don't want to turn this thread into a flame, but dabs service did go down hill for me bigtime, I never use them now.
I have trade accounts, but but the time you add the p & p its no cheaper, infact offen costs more
The online stores have made the market place better for us all.

I wasnt really having a "flame" at them, with thay many orders going through every supplier is bound to have the odd hickup. Other than this one problem I am very pleased with them.

In theory, I prefer to actually go to the store to buy what I want, but the reality with work and the kids is that I tend to do a lot of my shopping online.
