Just wondering if any Ninja Members are running a UT2003 server. If so please post the IP and you may get some familiar faces popping on for a quick blast :)

failing that post details of any servers you regularly play on.

How would one go about setting up a UT2K3 Server if they didn't have the game? :cunning:

Well, if one wanted to setup a ut2k3 server for free, then that one person :P would have to go to http://www.unrealtournament2003.com/?downloads, and look under misc. downloads :)

BTW the server component will take up approx. 780 MB(fully uncompressed) on your computer, you can download the linux or windows version, and be sure to register for the free server cdkey.

I'll that someone know. I think that person wouldn't mind downloading a 300MB file ....

so ^7_of_9, are you going to create one :)

I tried to get one up and running but for some reason I couldn't login as admin. The help files for editing the .ini files for getting it up and running are wrong as it points to stuff that doesn't even exist at all ....

eg. File says to edit UnrealTournament.ini in the Unreal\system directory. There is no such file. Doesn't say you need to create one or what. Also says to edit something else to create the login name but that line doesn't exist .. I spent about an hour looking for help and other stuff that could help, but no go.

Unless someone can point me to a site or can give me some help it doesn't look like I can ....

I'm fairly clueless about anything to do with gaming, ^7, but does this (http://www.3dgw.com/guides/utserver/) help you at all?

Or maybe this? (http://www.techie.net.nz/howto/ut.html)

See again they point to the file unrealtournament.ini .... Why don't I have this file in the copy I got downloaded? Somthing is also wrong because the switches they say to use don't work when I try to use them....

I'm gonna try to download it again from a different location and see what happens.

Just found out that there are some patches and stuff I need to download. Currently downloading them now. Once I've got those in place I'll give it a shot. If it's a go then the server will be available in about an hour and a half (ST: Voyager is on in about 30 mins :) )

ok I'm not sure how well setup this is .... but here goes:

unreal2003.kicks-ass.net is the Hostname you can use. I'd use the IP but it's Dynamic and therefore everchanging.

Need feedback (And possibly help on any feedback) if anybody connects.

So if you've got info on something that isn't working right and know where I can get the info to fix it then it'd be greatly appreciated :)

P.S. I hope I got ALL the ports forwarded that needed to be.

^7 I decided to load up the game to test out your server.

I have found team picard@ninjamicro's.com on the Master Server List, hosted by ^7 of 9 so i assume this is the right one :D

Cant get into it as you have stats tracking turned on and i dont have it enabled any chance you could look and see if you can turn it off so i can get into your server ?

If stats tracking is a feature others want then I will just have to turn them on but for now...

By the way the Ping looks pretty bad for me (especially as i have broadband) but it is worth a try :)

^7_of_9
3rd December 2002, 05:11 PM
ok I'll turn it off, but I can't do it till I get home tonight.

The Ping should be good as it's a 3meg down and 640k up connection and I almost always get that speed.

I found it under "team picard@ninjamicros.com" :D
My ping is 145 on cable from the UK.
It was looking good until someone else joined and then the server went off line.
Cant wait for a bit of online Picard fraggin :D

Ruiner?

I went onto the admin console and for some reason I tried to do something and it restarted. Thankfully I've got a batch file that auto restarts the server if it crashes. I may stick it onto my Windows 2000 Server machine later on tonight for better use out of the machine.

Is that a decent ping time to what you are used to getting from other servers 888?

my ping was over 150 looking at server, I popped into another server since i had taken the trouble to find the disk, realised just how slow it ran on my PC :(

You got your stats enabled 888 ? it was easy having them off in old version, in this version you cant connect to some servers without them :cuss:

Gonna have to find the manual as well...picked up the ion painter, apart from a nice red line where i was aiming nothing happened bots kept shooting me :)

The changes I'll make tonight will involve

1) Taking the stats command off.
2) Seeing if I can get it onto my Windows 2000 Serverw/o probs.
3) Figuring out how to actually get a proper admin name and password entered

I'm gonna download a copy of the demo UT2003 so I can play and test it out myself as well as I don't have the actual game ...

Yea, I was on for a couple of minutes with Ruiner. I was in the middle of setting things up so I never got a chance to play him.
Dont know about the ping tho, this is the first online 2003 server I've tried. I'll give Blueyonders a shot just to see - thats my ISP so I should get the fastest connection from my machine.
I know on Penfolds UT server I get a ping of between 45 and 60. But I've usually got the best ping on the server.
I'm going to have to upgrade my memory though. I minimised the game and noticed my machine was using over 300MB of memory - and its only got 256 :(. The paging file must have been thrashing the hard disk. Gotta look around the house for another stick of DDR.

Yea Bozo, I had to enable stats to get onto the server.

See you both out there :D

^7_of_9
3rd December 2002, 07:13 PM
Penfold is also UK based as well though isn't he? And I'm in Canada so I'm sure tha's part of the reason for the higher ping times.

BTW Got a link to where I can see the list where you guys found it on whatever page or place you found it. I wasn't sure where it was listed ....

Wooohooo nice ping :P I was getting a 35 since I'm in toronto :) But there was a down side, the server was a bit laggy, so you're going to have to tweak it a bit more :(

888
3rd December 2002, 07:28 PM
Yea 7, Penfolds server is here in the UK. The pings so good it must be in my street somewhere :D
I think the server list is only available in the game itself :(

^7_of_9
3rd December 2002, 07:29 PM
There was some tweaks I had applied originally but according to the patch file everything gets overridden once the patch is applied. I had assigned more CPU resources to it as well as more memory and other stuff, but didn't have a chance to redo it as it got late last night.

I'm also in Toronto which is probably why you got the wicked ping time. :)

^7_of_9
3rd December 2002, 07:33 PM
Oh yeah on another note for everyones info, I don't get home till about 9:30pm EST so it probably won't be until about 10:30pm EST or so (Give or take about 1/2 hour) for me to locate the tweaks and get it running a bit faster.

Once that's done and I've got a copy of the game downloaded for myself so I can do tests on it a bit myself so I can figure out if there's something I can fix. I'll apply tweaks and all as soon as they come out as well as patches. Hopefully if I can get it working properly we can use it as a Game server for UT2003 like everyone does with Blasts Server for CS. :)

Anyone know if it would run faster on a Win2K Server install than a WinxP Pro? XP Pro of course is more of a memory hogh than 2K and I know some other apps run faster on 2K, but any ideas on game servers?

DDR - show off

well my p3 & geforce 1 are really struggling to run this, lowest Resolution everything no doubt turned off by default and 'ye olde hard disk' :D

^7 whats the onboard sound like on a ecs/elite board ? Perhaps I should install another hard disk so I can install the game on a faster PC. My ecs/elite board has an xp ;) but no hard disk space or soundcard.

^7_of_9
3rd December 2002, 11:07 PM
The K7S5A has onboard Sound

All mine are just diskless nodes and I never even noticed that it's got onboard sound as they just crunch. My Real Main machine uses an SB Live 5.1 as the Onboard sound on the MSI K7T266 Pro-2 RU really sucks badly.

That is the only time I've ever tried onboard sound cause I'm usually not a big fan of onboard stuff except for the ECS Onboard Lan which I like as it frees up a PCI slot.

I think the lag is probably a thing on my side as that machine is running Genome@Home at the Normal priority as well as being the Fileserver for our home Lan. If I'm right then the priority on the Server may only be set at Idle by default which could explain part of the lag reasons. Maybe I'll move it to the Windows 2000 Server machine which is a dually MP1900+.

Someone want to point me in the direction of a free download of the demo I can use to test the game out on? (I used to have it but I deleted it after ppl were done downloading it from me)

Bozo
3rd December 2002, 11:11 PM
^7

The demo can be got from the same link at the start of the thread (where you went for server files)

edit and off topic slighty.

If I have genome running and try running ut2003. Pc always crashes..to the point where i have to turn it off, reset button or ctrl-alt-del dont work :(

Guess the poor thing just can't hack trying to run both.

I just found out that the Demo game can't be used with the Retail Server (Which is what I'm running) That really sucks :hopping:

Well I somehow managed to delete the Server .zip file so I have to download it again now as I think I found out part of my admin problems :yippee:

Bozo
4th December 2002, 09:07 AM
Well at lest if you run around a little on the demo you can get a feel for the game, if you like it you will probably be able to pick up the retail game cheap soon as the sales start :)

Just for your information, ^7 I have enabled the stats on my PC (not really what i wanted) so i should be able to able to get into your server now. Managed to find 888 on another server last night, he was getting in some practice..(you need it mate, i finished above you )

@888 dont know if you saw my message while playing, F1 when the game ends brings up the scores, dont know if there is a better way ? Why are they not displayed automatically by default ? another little annoyance I find whith this new version.

LOL....I thought you might mention trashing me last night :D

I just cant get into the game mate. I still prefer the original UT.
UT2003 seems overly cluttered, and very slow. Im running on a dual MP1.8 with a Gforce4 Ti4600. I've only got 256MB of memory, but the performance should still be better than it is :(
Apart from seeming less cluttered and cleaner, the original UT seemed a more precise and finished game.
I'll keep on playing though - it might grow on me. And besides, I've got to beat you now Bozo m8ey :D

The UT Server on my end takes up close to 60MB of RAM so last night I popped in another 256MB of DDR into this machine and clocked it a bit higher as well :D

I turned the stats off now as well, and hopefully things are running ok.

If anyone's interested (Bozo pointed me to this thread a while back), I've just installed a server here on my spare DSL line. Its a full UT03 server. Im not sure how UK performance will be, but should have good East Coast US performance :) More info at link below. Have fun! See yas folks in a game or two :)

Cheers Player0, I will certainly be paying you guys a visit, if my ping is bad I will just anticipate where i think you actually are and fire off a salvo of rockets, cross my fingers and run away :)

By the way ^7 I meant to post a couple of days back I tried to get on your server after your upgrade and just got unavailable. Dont know if you need to restart something or whether it is turned off.
