In the realm of no free publicity is bad publicity, Eidos has done it again causing quite a scene with the recall of early copies of Hitman 2 - Silent Assassin after drawing the ire of religious leaders. A mission in the first person shooter imitated the real-life 1984 Golden Temple massacre in Amritsar where thousands of Sikhs were killed in an attack by Indian troops. According to Eidos, copies of the games have been recalled and replaced with a new version. Eidos removed all "...relevant images and content," from the website and have "...taken steps to amend the game on all existing platforms and adapted the next edition of the game due out for the GameCube platform," according to a piece at Ananova. I wonder if that makes the original version of the game, which plenty of people have in their hot little hands, a collectible?
Rob note: Hitman 2 has been a controversial game. First, it's ads were banned from many television stationsmore here (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_713100.html)

Interesting! I'm still playing the game (it's briiiilll :D), but I haven't yet reached a level in a temple... tho'I still might of course ;) But it doesn't matter t' me personally if/when I do... coz I ain't sendin' it back anyways :p
Wouldn't ye have thought Eidos woulda realised somebody... somewhere might take offence at such realism t' RL events, and have done what they've now done... e.g. change the level structure? It would surely have saved a lot of embaressment, time, effort and money

i think its rediculous that they are getting all upitty about a computer game because it is NOTHING like that incident IMHO as number 42 isnt an Indian and the year isnt 1984. hmm some people get upset over absolutle nothing!

Here in little old Rhode Island,.. last night a 12 year old kid nabbed a car and took off for the highway,.. did it in fron of a mess of people too,.. he drove around randomly untill the State police caught up with him, at which point the kid took off!!! He drove halfway across the state untill he crashed on Rt. 10. When questioned,.. the 12 year old said he wanted to get in a police chase,.. just like Grand Theft Auto!!!!
