The next version of the Lindows OS will be available for download from the company's web site this coming Monday, according to a notice from the company.
As it has done before, the Lindows team has attmepted to strike a balance between Linux and Windows, making it easy to set up a Linux environment in a Windows-like manner. The company is offering $30 off if users preorder the software by midnight PDT this Friday, Nov. 15, using a special code.
Lindows 3.0 will include a year's subscription to the Click 'N' Run Warehouse, a digital repository of Linux programs scattered elsewhere across the Internet. While Lindows 2.0 permitted users to download a certain number of programs, the new model will apparently allow users to download as many applications as they want, with no additional licensing restrictions. A related "Click 'N' Run Express" CD promises to install those applications quickly by preloading certain files on popular applications directly from the installation CD-ROM.
Finally, the package includes an installation manual, which apparently has already been posted
online (http://info.lindows.com/quickstart30/) at the Lindows web site.
Next week, visitors to the Lindows.com website will be able to purchase the two CD Membership Edition for $129, including immediate digital access to the software from the company's servers. Those interested in only the digital product can save $10, as well as any shipping costs, by paying just $119 for the digital version of the LindowsOS 3.0 Membership Edition.
