What's the biggest processor I can sink into this thing? It's got a 1G Athlon in it right now, but I'm looking for a little more.

you'll be pleased to hear you can more than double that Actaeon :D

I checked Abit's USA site, and from there followed a link to the HardcoreWare (http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/motherboards/abit_at7/4.php) review. They used a 2100+ in their test unit, so you can safely use that one at least ;)

How much higher (if any) I'm not sure, but chucking in a 2100+ should prove a worthy upgrade

What was the url for that at Abit-USA? I couldn't find anything current on their site. It was probably cleverly hidden in plain sight.

Check out your board and Abits site, (above) There were two KT7A-raid boards, the secind was called V1.3.

There may be different CPUs available to the different revisions. Either way, I bet you will need to flash the bios to run an XP Athlon.

Athlon, NON XP 1.4 for the version one of this board. KT7a-raid.

The KT7A-Raid V1.3 can do the XP2100+

I used to have that board, nice it was too. :) Until the caps went that is... :(

From memory, the fastest CPU you can officially run depended on the revision. Boards before rev 1.3 only officially supported up to T-bird 1.4 GHz. I remember some people saying they got XPs to work in it without mods, but not everyone said that.

Rev 1.3 started official support for XPs, but I don't know what speed that support went up to.

Abit's USA URL is Abit-USA (http://www.abit-usa.com/) - and the URL for the KT7A-RAID board is KT7A-RAID (http://www.abit-usa.com/pt_main_backc4ab.html?pPRODUCT_TYPE=MotherBoard&pMODEL_NAME=KT7A-RAID) ;)

Unfortunately... I haven't been able to find out the max CPU it can take? Maybe you'll be able to find out tho'... with 'Abit' more digging :)
