I wondered where I had seen this name before Jet..and shock horror, on my hard disk - with a host of Dido, Michelle Branch, and Sarah McLaughlin I find Avril singing 'Complicated' 'I'm with you' and a few others....
huh..now my 13 yr old daughter usually shows a certain amount of taste (including Tori Amos, Alanis Morisette, Garbage and Catatonia as well as above) but this seems the weakest of them all.
I *could* make her day and say im disappointed in Avril...nothing annoys her more than finding daddy likes and plays her Dido and stuff LOL.

LOL..whats worse, she likes the soundtracks from Buffy, Roswell etc (you know the kindof stuff lol) ..only to discover that *I* already have the Jessica Andrews or whatever she wants ..oh thats gotta hurt. Though im not too sure what it says about me either
I TRY and stick to springsteen, lofgren, eels, gomez or strokes..but you know..all these country like female vocalists are pretty cute :D

Hey Squeaky, what do "Catatonia" sound like?
I will just state for the record now - female vocalists rule! Why would we not want to listen to a romantic gal crooning? (and btw - sign me up for the Pink club as well!)
"I'm comin' up, so you'd better get this party started."

Pink cute is a dirty kind of way :D The think the strokes are overated. There was so much hype around them that I expected more. I think the other recent NME hyped bands like The Vines and The White Stripes are a lot better. The Eels rock! Anyone here like Lemon Jelly or Elbow?
Squeaky
2nd November 2002, 09:36 PM
yeah I like the Vine and Stripes too....neither meet the standard set by Gomez or Eels though...i just LIKE the strokes LOL ..i didna say they were superlative musicians or anything LOL... only Nils and Bruce fulfill that need for me ;)
Spec, Catatonia are fronted by Cerys Matthews, she sings with a very distinctive accent and rock style. If you want to hear the popular tracks try ALL the samples at Amazon provided below:

I'd also recommend Belly (my fave) and Garbage (Ellies fav) for a less clean trashier female vocal :)

Spec, get your hands on cerys matthews (and her music too, if you can) as she's very listenable.

I'd also recommend Belly (my fave)
Do you mean the "Belly" from the early 90's, ex-"Throwing Muses" With Tanya Donnelly? That Belly? Or is there another one thats around now?
Squeaky

HA! lol,
I grew up with Tanya in Little old Newport RI! Best buddies, family freinds and all. My first Apartment was with her Brother. (She was in the middle of quitting the Muses then) One of the nicest people, .. and way too smart for her own good :D
and why do you and Jules have the same chicken for an avatar??????
Squeaky

that be back in early 90's CS yes? what a claim to fame :D I love Belly, must confess to have not listened to muse stuff, but have been digging for her more recent solo work in past few months!

the CHICKEN
is actually
the DEATH of RATS an anthropromorphic (?) personification from Terry Pratchetts Discworld novels...immensely funny, but thats a long tale.....the only reason i use it is it annoys Jules so much, she actually detests the graphic, and i dont believe has ever read the books. why she uses it? thats a confusing tale..i think to show her objection to ME doin so...not realising of course i find it COOL :) ...ohh..and i think it annoys Rids to ;)

I personally couldn't stand the Throwing Muses, which of course was a very unpopular opinion in the crowd I was mixing with :D, But I love Belly! "Star" is such a freaking head trip to listen too, because all of those songs were about stuff right out of her life, specifically, things that had transpired as the Muses broke up,... and well to listen to it, its like ,.. "oh, I know exactly who she's talking about there, and .. oh yeah, I remember the staircase and her old Bike here,.. etc.... Freaky.
We knew the Donellys since Tanya and I were like 8 years old. Litterally grew up together. She and her brother were allways at our little farm playing, or I was at there house in town spending the night. Great fun.

Star is my favoured album but I guess the additional background for you must be great! thats so great!! I'm floored :D
Jules
3rd November 2002, 12:42 AM
Yep.. I DO detest it! It's disgusting! And I'm quick to give him a hard time anytime he puts it up.... or any other time the urge strikes me for that matter...;)
I should have known he'd find it COOL (cuz he's sick like that) I'll keep if for a little while since it makes him soo happy....but then I'm gonna make him use MY avatar....to make ME happy :newangel:

O-kay, I can see its a dead rat now:) Thought it was a chicken! Is certainly not as cute as the little Rat-Ben he usually has. But I don't know Jules, I think it kind of suits you...... :halo: :xfool:

Terry Pratchett - Death of Rats!! of course thats the little blighter!!
I've been doing my head in about what your avatar was - and I've read all 25 (soon to be 26) Discworld books. It was one of those "I know it, but not sure where from" things.... (anyone else but me know what I'm talking about here?)
Jules, Cyberdyne - go read any of the Discworld novels (they are without peer in childlike, but complex funny) especially any of the 4 with the witches...
Trust me (my taste in books is better than my taste in music)

I begged for book suggestions before I went on holiday and having only read 1 out of the 3 in the series, (in my defense..it was the biggest..and I read it in less than a week!) I HAVE to finish them before I take on anymore (and not just because I'm reminded frequently that I've not done this yet)....but I will take this into consideration for next time I fancy reading something that doesn't have pictures :)
