SONY PREPS NET-ENABLED TIVO DEVICE
Sony recently unveiled plans for a new Internet-connected digital video recording (DVR) device that uses a 160GB hard disk to store 100 hours of television programming. Sony's Cocoon line of products are designed for broadband users who want sophisticated DVR functionality and interconnectivity with other devices, such as cell phones, Sony PlayStation 2s, and home PCs. Sony powers this technology with software licensed from DVR market-leader TiVo. The company will roll out the initial products in Japan, as usual, but a US launch is forthcoming. Stay tuned.
