Using WMP to burn Audio CDs. IS this the right way?

I have been using WMP to copy the songs that I like from my cds to the HD and then burn them to a blank cd. Noticed that the file type is Windows Media File. I can listen to the CDs i make on all my cd players (even the ancient one i got in highschool!) So i guess the file type should be correct. My question however is: Is there a better software out there that does this? Or WMP is just about the best one can get? (And it's free! well sorta since it came with Win XP) :)
