Does anyone know how I could burn the contents of a VIDEO_TS directory to DVD-R so that it'll play on my standalone DVD player.
Have tried the latest Nero using DVD-Video ... the resulting DVD-R will play on my PC but not on my standalone. Should I try it as a DVD-ROM UDF project?
Help appreciated ...

Firstly make sure you have the newest version of nero ( free updates can be downloaded from www.nero.com ).
Secondly found this in there latest bugfix update:
When creating a DVD-Video compilation using the Nero-Wizard, ISO filesystem was generated instead of ISO/UDF which causes DVD-Video disks not to play on stand alone DVD players
so yes it sounds like you need to use the UDF project.

Done it! YE HA!! This is how ...
Using Nero 5.5.9.0 I created an image file under the DVD-Video option with the contents of the VIDEO_TS directory. This automatically creates an AUDIO_TS directory.
I then mounted this image using Nero ImageDrive.
I then converted this .nrg file to an .iso file using DVD Decrypter. This was acomplished by reading off the virtual drive in ISO mode ... why didn't I think of this before?
It was then a 'piece of piss' to write the DVD in ISO mode using the same excellent program.
It plays on my standalone and everything seems to work.
I haven't played the full movie yet but I'm sure it'll work fine.
I'm well chuffed as this has taken me over 2 days and 4 expensive coasters to work out ...
NOTE: The DVD I created directly from Nero using DVD-Video WOULD NOT play on my standalone ... I think that there are still some issues with even the latest Nero!

I'm still thinking about getting a DVD recorder. Did find this site (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/SVP_Communications_Recordable_DVD_Discs_16.html) which has DVD-R blanks from 43p each inc VAT excl delivery. PC World charge you more than that for unbranded CDRs...

SVP are who I buy all my CDR/CDRW/DVD-R discs from.... and I've bought hardware from them in the past too
They're both cheap and very well organised. From time of ordering, to receipt of goods, is usually 2 days... 3 MAX   - providing you put your order in by about 4pm of course ;) I can't speak of them highly enuff :thumb:

Good point ... will do ...

43p ... got to check that out. I'm currently using a brand recommended by my local digital video expert at £3.50 ea. But I need them for authoring so they've got to be good ... but for data DVDs ... maybe a cheaper brand?
During my latest job I tried to mount a .nrg image of more than 4,690,000 Kb and got an error message!
Looks like you've got a slight image size limitation with Nero ImageDrive ... DVD Decrypter's limit is supposed to be 4,718,592,000 Kb ... and I've pushed it to pretty near that. So I had to cut the size of my VIDE_TS folder back to 4,270,000 Kb ... it then mounted perfectly ... on with the DVD.
My neck's killing me. I need a break from these damn VOB files ...

What! 75p a branded DVD-R!! And cheap postage ... I'm putting my order in today. I want to see how these disks author. If they work they'll save me a fortune. The cheapest I'd seen previously was £2.20 - and that was if you bought 90 disks!
Thanks guys ... will let u know how I get on with them ... :thumb:

To cut down on you're inventory of coasters,..someone recomended this simple procedure FOR ALL DVD-R experimenting.
So simple really when you think about it....
Use DVD-RW until it works!!!!!!!!!!!
Now why didn't I think of that before I burned all those glossy coasters!!!!
I suppose it depends on you're stand alone player. But the DVD-RW runs just fine in my settop box with a "backup" of a certain Tolkien Book made into a Movie.

Never thought of that ... will try it.
I've got a Sony standalone and it seems a little sensitive to the playback of backup and home authored DVDs ... when it refuses to play I get the message 'disc is dirty'
But this has its advantages ... if a DVD plays on my standalone it'll most likely play on any standalone!
Ordered 10 blank DVDs (Ice, white top, generation 3) at 74p each from SVP. And they seem to work fine. Looks like I'm going to save a fortune! Going to do a few more burns and then put a big order in ...
