Hi,

I wont use Artic Silver becasue it did not work..... I just did it few days ago and it is a "NO GO"...

I think OPPAINTER is using rear Defrogger kit... I am getting it later today... Need to unlock this baby first:)

The best or easiet stuff is too use:
1. Scotch tape
2. Defogger repair kit
3. Super Glue
4. Magnifying glass
5. Nail Polish remover
6. Razor Blade...

I had never unlocked an XP before and I just unlocked mine last night, 1st time and everything worked perfectly, have control of all the multipliers, even the .5's:)

The first time I did an XP unlock I used what AMD Man suggested above. It worked good.

The next time I used mostly the same materials, but substitiuted clear nail polish for the superglue, and conductive grease for the defogger repair. This worked much better.

The clear nail polish was easier to apply with a needle tip directly into the pits. In addition, if you make a mistake, a simple swip of nail polish remover cleans everything off, unlike superglue which can be kinda stubborn to remove.

The conductive grease worked much much better than the defogger repair too. Again, the defogger repair is kinda thick and lumpy and not as easy to apply. With the conductive grease, you can "paint" it on with the tip of a needle. It is also easily removable.

I followed the article on Overclockers.com the first time. But the general idea is to fill the pits with a non conductive substance and then connect the bridges with a conductive substance. Taping things off help with mistakes. But i found when I switched materials as noted above, I did not need to use the tape on the second unlock procedure. I was able to apply the nail polish directly into each pit, and "paint" each bridge with conductive grease. It took a steady hand (and a few beers beforehand) but it was easier than using the tape. Also, the taping off each bridge will not work will the conductive grease as the grease never really dries and you will smudge it. Instead, i applied 1 strip of tape over all the bridges when they were complete to protect the grease.

Hope this helps.

I second both of the above methods. I used superglue & rear defogger paint applied with a pin.

Well I don't know what kind of defogger repair kit mdzcpa was using but the one i used is call Permatex Quick Grid Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit. The liquid was not thick or lumpy it was more like a thinner white out type liquid with it's own brush and everything:) and If you apply enough scotch tape you should not have to worry about the glue going anywhere but the pits..
At first I also tryed as mdzcpa with the clear nail polish, but it kept pealing back up.. so i said screw it and pulled out the old super glue:)

grr, i sent someone to auto parts store for a defogger kit and they came back with some "interior glass and mirror defogger"

i called the auto parts store after and they just didn't have anything except that stuff. some clear liquid in a bottle.

electronic stores also around me seem to be out of pens. may just have to order one online. but at around $13.00 a pop??? hmmm, still it is worth it to feed my habit :)

FWIW, I used the "crayon and defogger kit" method. Worked fine. The crayon was a brilliant idea, whoever had it. Hassle free and about 5 seconds to fill the gaps.

One word of advice. Things go waaaaay easier if you have some sort of magnifying glass. I've got good eyesight, but them thar contacts is amighty small.

Looks like you modded the L3 pits also...

Why? Is that necessary?
