When i first switch on my system and the hdd's start spinning I can hear a small clunking noise noise comeing from one of the raid drives, does this mean the drive is developing a fault? it only happens once when powered on. It still seems to worm ok but it annoys me as the drives are only a few weeks old and didn''t used to do it.

Hi Ummugumma.
Take Drive Fitness Test (version 2.30).Download the correct version for your Operational System, probably Windows version. There are two: Linux and Windows. This download creates a self booting diskette to run the DFT utility. This problem used to be a bad sector.Place the prepared floppy disk in the system to be tested and boot the system.Make sure to test both two Hds.If a failure is recorded, then a red screen appears. If the cause of failure is due to a media error (for example a bad sector) then you will be presented with a screen giving the opportunity to run Erase Disk option.
Note – Erase Disk use a Low Level format operation and will delete all the data on your disk, because that, make a backup of all your datas.Sometimes the screen shows a non-media test failure. In this case look for the "Failure Code" on red screen and follow the table described Here on page #28 ( DFT error codes) to take a decision about what to do.
I hope this help you.
Regards.

Thanks for the info ;)
The troublesome drive has just totally screwed for no reason at all. Can't partition it or anything, i'll run that test on the other hdd see what happens.
Don't think i'll ever be going near IBM hdd's again cos i've only had them a few weeks.

I have copied this thread to the NM Faq forum, as it appears that this IBM HD problem is becoming more and more prevalent. There is now even a class action lawsuit against IBM regarding the 75GXP model (that many of us here on Ninja Micros use). Thanks for the links sptw!!
