We had a thread in here (before the merger) where folks could post pic's of their wheels, whatever they may be. Well, guess what, I'm bringing it back!
Here's a car I own/ed years ago - a Caterham Seven that unusually, bears a Lotus SuperSeven logo (pre-buyout). It's currently being driven by my 70-year old Dad in South Africa who, I'm reliably informed, terrorises his neighbourhood with it! Ah, family! :D And he seems to think that I've forgotten about it... A pity it's too expensive to ship over to London.

Congrats Snufkin!! :) If it's a saloon just stick some steer horns on the front and away you go. ;) I actually saw someone driving a boat around (boat = big old Lincoln-like car) with horns on the front! :D
My ride is this w/out the molding high up on the side, and it's white instead of blue:

I've got a mint *ahem* 1987 323 snufkin, and I can assure you that they will take a serious thrashing up to a point, but i'm getting through front tyres like they're made of cheese and i recently had the engine explode while in the drive through queue at McD's. Also, watch out for the price of genuine Mazda parts. Recently a pair of wing mirrors (don't ask) cost me a bargain £180 and the work on the engine wasn't cheap.
And all that with only 48k on the clock. Not that i'm trying to scare you or anything :D On the plus side though, it's extremely reliable and is about as appealing to thieves as a dog turd, particularly if it's a low engine capacity (mines 1.3l)

98 Nissan Almera GX 1.6 - the piccie attached is the only one I have on my hard disk at the moment, taken when I was getting some pics of my house. Pretty much standard spec apart from a MD head unit and new front speakers after I blew the factory fitted ones. If I ever have money to burn I want to get alloys, tinted windows, spoiler and a real sound system.
I also need something less practical, having been to the US I feel like getting an old Cadilac, the ones with the big fins on the back. :D

That ZT 500 is sweet lookin!
Currently I drive a 1988 Ford LTD Crown Victoria..no pictures yet, but it is really a sweet car. Power everything, Auto Kill-Switch for anti theft, Remote Start, Remote Keyless entry, Auto Headlights, Heated Windshield for the winter, and brandy new Air Conditioning..Transmission only has 4,000 miles on it, and half the engine is rebuilt, so even with 123k on the clock, it still has a long life left..next thing to get replaced is the stereo system..

This is kind of my ride. Minus the big hellas on the bottom and all the extra black plastic. It's a 96 imprezza 5 spd that's sorta stock. I've owned 3 camaros (80-85) and a 79 firebird w/ 454 and now I will allways have a subaru. They are so much fun to drive. I'm waiting on the driveline from a WRX to put in my ride now. The thing drives like it's tail is on fire :D
MrP one of the rides you're lusting after looks like an AC cobra. That's a car I WILL own before I die.

Yeah mines a 1.3. I've already experienced the parts price! I managed to replace the rear light block from a scraped car, but I I had to get the shockes replaced for the MOT. NEVER get your mum to handle garages. The two rear shocks cost £80 each. She thought the dude said £8 each! Still I didn't pay for it but thats like the quarter of the full cost of the car. Its funny, I was thinking only yesterday that the front tyres were gonna wear quickly. Dave, Im getting my arms pumped up from just manouvering the thing! :D

Dicki, I think it's time to bring the scirocco out of retirement after seeing Josh's beast, a few mods and it could be ready to roll once again :D .
Snufikin, I hear what you're saying about the steering, it's quite a monster to get used to handling around the car park, butI've got to say i'm getting strangely attached to mine now, and i will be sad when it goes (even though i'm hoping to have a VW Corrado lined up soon). Saying that though, i still can't understand quite why the tyres wear so quickly, i'm just glad that they're one of the things that is fairly cheap to replace.

Aah, the Scirroco - a whole loada fun! I remember when my dream car was very many years a Corrado! :thumb: Couldn't afford one at the time and then they stopped making them (or, at least, exporting them to South Africa, where I lived for 18yrs). Then they stopped producing them altogether... :( No market, they said - which I could hardly believe..!

I would post a pic of my car here,
but it ain't really defined as fast by any stretch of the imagination.... as those folks who have seen it will undoubtedly testify! And I couldn't possibly post off topic now could I? ;)
Imagine, if you will, a battered old dark grey 1993 phase 2 Renualt 19 TD RSi (why they called this car "Renault Sport injection", I will never know - injection yes, sport no) with 165,000 miles on the clock, a slightly buggered clutch, a very lean running primer, and possibly 80BHP if you are lucky and have a trailing wind. Imagine an engine so loud that at motorway speeds you can't even hear your own voice, and internal trim that rattles irritatingly even at slower speeds. Imagine a car where the central locking isn't central. Or locking. A car where turning the headlights on causes the glove compartment to open, and turning the heater on causes the dashboard lighting to dim. A car with a stereo that can eat tapes for breakfast. A car that despite lacking any kind of sporting capability, manages to end up in the same insurance group as a BMW 318 and a Toyota Celica.....
Thats my car, and the only advantage I have yet to find in it is that it does fantastic motorway mileage (50 to 55MPG, say 550 to 600 miles on a tank), which isn't shabby given it supposedly rated on 45MPG extra-urban. Given the current extortionate price of fuel, I am more than willing to forgive all of the above failings for as long as it doesn't cost too much to maintain.... hopefully another 40,000 miles at least!

the difference is not huge, but then it didn't cost any more to buy when I got it.... ;)
Although the Renault garage it was originally bought from kept insisting that it be fitted with really expensive tyres rated to 140mph, and kinda got very irritated when I pointed out the car is only rated at 119-120 before you bounce off the rev limiter, and so could take much cheaper sets without any danger at all.....
I have to say this being my first car, I have learned alot, notably that I won't ever buy from a Renault or Peugeot dealership again, what a rip off! In fact the only honest dealers round my way are the 2 brothers running the Skoda garage.... any wonder that all the taxis are Octavias. :)

Grrr dang nabbit... It's the codec giving me trouble... the vid is captured with my "3G" Sony Ericsson phone and uses a wierd codec that apperently only quicktime can view/convert... (if I can get the settings rigth that is...)
Lets try again... this time I clicked the box "make standalone movie file"... DUH!
Argh... it multiplies filesize by 10 and divide quality by atleast 5 and then it has the gall to say "thank you for encoding in our new, small and portable video format..."

Worked for me. Nice ride Tweety! Is that an ACR version? I couldn't tell from the video.
Here is my new toy, had it for 4 months now. 2004 GT3, 400hp, 4.1 0-60 mph, 12.2 quarter mile, handles like it's on rails. :D

Jup... it's an ACR... as I said sligtly modified... It's gutted (well, there ain't that much to take out...) and had a small engine rebuild... It's doing about 720Bhp (no fancy turbo, just old fashioned grunt) benched at that...:)
We are running it in the GT2 category 24H Nordic series (GT/GT2 is a bit different in each series) But basicly the only one's we have in front are the prototypes, and they better move fast or we will catch them...:D

Are you talking about the Mk I GT3 maybe? This is the Mk II and doesn't have any nanny stuff at all. No traction control, no PSM, nada. The only driver assist it has is ABS brakes. That's the main reason I picked it instead of an X50 Turbo, which tries to drive for you lol.
The GT3 is perfect for a daily driver that you can also track successfully.
I too love the GT2, hopefully it will be my next car. The prices on them are crazy here now though. New ones are stickered at $180k US! There is hope for me though, I am seeing low mile used ones starting to come under 150k. Maybe in a couple years...
Your ACR is hot. I love that you call 720bhp "slightly" modified. A guy at my office has a red ACR stock which is screaming fast. Yours must be an absolute rocket!
Tweety
18th October 2004, 11:14 PM
Most likely the Mk I... The one I have access to is a -02... And it definetly have all the bells and whistles...:) including ABS wich I hate... Well for road driving they are perfect... but for track driving (and on road "fun") they are a PITA because after getting used to the Viper and the GT2 wich has no ABS you tend to brake until just at the edge... and in the GT3 the ABS kicks in and mucks it up...
Well it is sligthly modified...:D We did have it up to roughly 800-810 Bhp with another engine block before, but that caused frequent breakdowns and sligthly erratic engine characteristics wich isn't a good thing in endurance racing, so we have found this to be "wild enough" for performance while it's as reliable as most standard cars... We ran the whole season without any major hiccups... :)
Well as for rocket...:) Well yeah... But I can tell you this much... after one lap at race pace, your arms begin to tremble and you are sweating like a pig...:) The handling of the Viper is superb, BUT its kinda lika a wrestling match, if you take it easy and stay of the gas it tries to go straigth ahead in the corners and you have to pull it around the corners by hand...:D And if you gun it, it figths to kick out the rear end, wich is kinda fun if you are expecting it (scrubs of speed thoo) but if you get caugth out you WILL end up looking like a fool with the node pointing the wrong way...:D
The good part is that the Porches and Ferraris in our class are a little hesitant to pass us in the corners (their strong part) when the rear end is snaking...:D and if they do try it, well keeping an inside line AND blocking the outside line IS possible... IF you have the guts to try it...:D
That is what I love about the Viper... It's big, it's mean and bites if you provoke it...:) The Porshes (both GT2 and GT3) are more civilised, they tell you in advance before they try anything funny...:) In the Viper the advance warning is issued when you move the stick out of neutral...:D

Or there is plenty of rubber...:D Actually the good part about using a "race car" (when it was still legal to drive on the street) was that a tire used on track, a semi slick (wet tire) is basicly a street legal tire with a rather thick rubber layer wich is cut in a pattern with a lot less cuts than a normal tire... and since the rubber compound is to hard to run it on dry (if you start on wet and it dries up you run it until next pitstop or until it's overheated and gets slippery) and once it comes of it is to much used to put on next time you need a semi slick or wet tire they are "discarded"... most of the time with plenty of rubber left... We usually have lots of them lying around...
And the only thing needed to use them on the street is a pattern of not less then 20% coverage with no uncut area larger than 1% of the mantel area, with a minimum of 3 mm depth... You simply put the wheel in a tire cutting machine and run a 5 mm pattern (deeper pattern means you simply burn it off faster with no extra grip added), go out and burn rubber until the groove is down to 3 mm, then cut new and repeat until you hit the yellow warning layer...:D
If you still have the urge to burn rubber and the local police have not yet arrested you for disturbing the peace or any similar charge (there are a whole list of appliable charges here in Sweden...) you simply grab a new set of rear wheels and do it all once more...:D (or until the pile of tires are empty/you run out of gas and have no money for more/...)
And since you are basicly only using the rear wheels a set of front wheels will last you for close to indefinetly...:)
Tweety
19th October 2004, 05:15 PM
Oh BTW I have no experience at all with the above, none of the suggestions...:) All hearsay...:D
And if you hear differently from anybody they are lying...:D
I heard it all from my cousins...:)
As an explanation, for those wondering how an average 25 year old student can afford the cars I'm talking about...
I own 20% of the team that owns the Viper, the rest is portitioned out to my two cousins, my uncle (who runs a -66 Mustang in the Classig GT Cup), and my aunt (Who shares a -02 Porsche GT3 with the wife's of my cousins in the Lady's Cup), also the Mustang and GT2 is owned withing the team... If it where not for this I would not have the money to "have" a Viper (and have access to a Porsche GT3, a Porsche GT2, and a few more more or less exotic cars)
The GT2 and the "rest" is owned by my uncle who because of a bad back is unable to do all that he needs/want's to in the garage and my deal with him is that I can borrow almost all cars basicly whenever I want as long as I help maintain them and do all the heavy lifing etc. that he needs help with...:)
As I would most likely pay him to be allowed to be mechanic to a couple of classic sportscars/muscle cars if I had any money to spare, the deal for me is heaven on earth...:D

Ehrm... Rolling start on a half length of a quartermile?!?! Well unless I strapped a rocket to the roof I'd be waay behind...:) Lot's of peddling or not at the halfway point you should hit atleast 120Mph an coast to the finish at that speed... I admit that the Viper accelerates to 120+ Mph in less than 5 seconds BUT... I still have en eigth of a mile to cover at that speed (or higher) to beat you...:)
And you should cover a 1/8 of a mile in a lot less than 10 seconds with a rolling start... wich is the time the Viper needs for a full 1/4 mile...
But if we both have a rolling start at say 20 Mph... Then I'll beat you without question...:)
BTW Daan... Who say's you can't have both...:D Since you won't race my car... Let's have a stats race instead...:D

We considered the Orange "ASBO" version, but it is already looking dated. The Stealth Black was pretty cool, but when we saw the Performance Blue "in the flesh" there was no contest - especially after getting to drive the demonstrator around for a whole day and getting loads of attention (most of it shrinking away rapidly in the rear-view mirror :D )
Didn't want to hand the car back, but we were able to nab one to our config that was coming off the production line that day, so only had to wait a week (would have been 20+ weeks for a black one).
Pic of the engine attached - not that much to see, but the specs are great:
Turbocharged Duratec ST, 20v 2.5 litre, 5-cylinder engine. 225PS with 320 Nm of torque from 1600 rpm right through to 4000 rpm. 6-speed manual gearbox and capable of a top speed in excess of 240 km/h (around 150mph), 6.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (6.5 seconds from 0 to 60 mph).
The Ford garage offered the Bluefin chip upgrade (uprate to 255bhp and 0-60 in 6.2 secs), but frankly we need to get used to the basic car first... :)

These are sturdy custom forgings from CP, designed for 900+ hp with nitrous oxide and water/methane injection. The piston crowns are coated with a ceramic heat barrier (as are the combustion chambers and valve crowns) to withstand the intense heat of competition. It's a never-ending project, of course... a REAL moving target.
The race weight with me in it is 4390 pounds (1995 Kg) but it will get heavier when the 6 point roll cage is added. Current target is to run 1/4 mile in the 10's and that takes a LOT of horsepower.

Well, Christmas came and went, and here comes the new year... and I'm not finished yet. Unlike my car (when it's running) I am slow sometimes. :D
Here's the cam being degreed in:

Heads assembled and ready to install. These have oversized valves with coated stems and special springs with locaters and high strength retainers. They have been CNC ported and flow benched to verify the design.

Sweet ride. What are your 1/4 ETs in the present condition? How much meat can you stuff under the rear to keep all those horses from going up in smoke? I like my Nittos, but with a pickup it's a lot easier to fit (they're only about an inch wider than the stock rubber). ;)

N/A ETs (depending on DA) are expected to be mid to low 11's on the 305/45/18 Nittos I have right now. With the nitrous boost and the 275/40/17 Hoosiers I should dip deep into the 10's with this 4400+ pound beast. There are a few things (drive shaft loops/roll bar/extinguisher, etc) to add a few pounds but the power is there.
This is a low 9 second motor. Too bad it's strapped to the Queen Mary. ;)

Yeah, gets a tad bit loud... :) But, the ones that claim they didn't see me can't claim they didn't hear me... helps alot, actually, for the folks who like to change lanes suddenly without looking or signaling. Most of them look to see where it is when they can hear it close by. I offered to put better/louder pipes on the wife's 750 V-twin and she initially declined the offer... but after some near misses with getting sideswiped, she's changed her mind, and they're on order.

All motor dyno pull on 12/22/2008 shows rear wheel horsepower and torque from the little giant 394:
7171
Peak rwhp (so far) 473 with peak torque 460 lb-ft shows plenty of tire-shredding potential. (At the crankshaft, these figures represent 575 hp and 559 lb-ft torque)
Lots of work remains to be done with fine tuning and completing the nitrous oxide wet injection system for another 300 horses, but it's going to be fully race-prepped by the time the weather improves and the racetracks reopen. :)

Dude - that's a seriously broad torque curve, and a virtual horsepower mountain! :D I don't envy you trying to keep it hooked up off the line (racetrack or stoplight), but I sure will be jealous of you once you get past the 60 ft mark.
Be sure to keep the updates coming. I did finally get around to adding after-market exhaust to my L this summer. It definitely sounds better & feels like it has more low- to mid-range torque, but I haven't had it back to the track since. Might even get a chance to swap the s/c pulley the next time it's in the shop. ;) Lately I've been spending all my free time on the back of my new bike: 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C90
