viper and supra vid (http://www.pelicanparts.com/MotorCity/schadelj/SupraTT_vs_ViperGTS.MPG)

not the fastest supra but you can see what a slightly moded stocker can do with less than i belive 1000 bucks worth of mods! to add this guy is rather new at this too!

also some time the vid wont work the first time so keep trying!

Well, I am not putting down Supras by any means, but that race looked more like the Viper driver didn't know what he was doing. He was REAL slow off the line, and having driven one of those babies, I can tell you there are VERY quick to start, even for their weight..The supra is hot, and fast, but I think if there had been an experienced driver there, it would have ended differently.

ahhh you guys sure need to remember something the viper does have more power stock than a supra but its much harded to get the power down(wheel spin) if you hear what the commintator said !
i too have driven a viper and they are very very hard to launch ..to add the viper driver of that car is one of the best stock viper drivers out he adminted the supra beat him hands down !guess there more to a race than brute strengeth some times;)

RanGer498

That is nothing wrong about it.

AMD XP1800+ does beat Intel P4 2.0GHz... Am I wrong?? hehe

dodge viper 450hp
toyota supra 300hp

with less than $1000 dollars toyota supra can be made to have well over 400hp assuming a moderate level of intelligence.

the toyota supra is a straight 6 2.6 litre, single or twin turbo depending on model year.

and with extreme modifications a supra can be made to well over 1000hp
(very very large turbo chargers, very very strong bottem end)

the dodge viper has a max of 490ft-lb of torque, while the supra probably doesnt even break 300

also since the dodge viper is NA it will achieve torque way way sooner which is seen when less than half throttle will break the wheels lose in 1st and 2nd gear

while the supra is turbo charged it will NOT develop adequate torque untill the motor has surpassed 3000rmp and developed the necessary boost... making for a much much easier take off and completely easier ability to moderate wheel spin.

flooring the viper at anytime is certain doom for the tires!!! even for the best of drivers. LOL

i would imagina that if the viper driver was very good he most likely panicked when he saw the supra come out ahead in the hole... and got leadfoot, and never recovered from the wheel spin

it looks absolutle fantastic, perhaps when i buy mine i will ask you for some advice on what to install first...

what horse power to you plan to finish with, and have you taken it to the track?

RanGer498
13th January 2002, 03:48 AM
id love to help!
well i was planing at only doing 550rwhp but now that im doing fuel i think ill be looking to get close to 600rwhp with the turbo i have !
my clutch right now will be my limiting factor some of my friends are push over 700 at the crank and the cars are daily drivers!

but im not looking to do that much as for the track this year(2002) will be my first year at the track with it! im hoping for low to mid 11's with my set up
now i have to decide on rims!

tripodal
13th January 2002, 03:55 AM
in your case im sure that rotating weight is not as much of a factor as it is for me, but either way i would like to suggest you go with a lightweight rim of some kind.

when i changed the rims on my civic i had quite a noticeable difference!

RanGer498
13th January 2002, 04:07 AM
already a factor in my mind just cant seem to decide what rims im looking at some volks or some Kinesis Originally posted by tripodal

RanGer498

yes i do! and i have an extra walbro pump about 1 month old
just purchased 2 new walbro pumps meant to only buy one but purchased 2 by mistake !
so if you want you can

1.but the stock one
2.buy the used walbro 340
3.buy one of the new walbros 341's

let me know!

tripodal
15th January 2002, 01:48 PM

15th January 2002, 03:08 PM
lol. cool

Why did you buy the new if you already had one? Like to see the specs on the walbro's if you got em...

I think I may just want the stocker cause I don't want a loud a$$ fuel pump noise in my street car... but I'll ask around how loud the walbro's are when situated in these cars. lata

Joe

RanGer498
15th January 2002, 10:01 PM
i was purchasing one only to replace the stocker that still works great (i was going to buy a new stock pump to run 2stockers but the price for one new toyota pump was too much , so i went with a new walbro pumps in there to match ) my friend thought i wanted to match the pumps so he had ordered an extra 341 for me !

i didnt want to screw him (since he did go out of his way to get them for me)so i purchased the other pump anyway!

the walbros are as loud as the stock fuel pump running 12volts

again it wont matter to me but i need to ask my friend something about the walbros 340 and 341

the stock one is still in my car and will be out this week (if everything goes well)

RanGer498
16th January 2002, 12:07 AM
lol the shop is in the middle of a big movement so dont mind the mess!
my motor has been out for a week now !the torch was moved there as it was in the way, they where using it on the car next to mine that is getting restored from the ground up its a classic mustang cobra ;)

my nice chrome wheels where taken off as i dont want to take the chance of scuffing them while my car is in the shop!
so i slaped on my old ones!

and while my car is on jack stands ill be driving my good old expedition (supras suck in snow any ways)

Al what shop you having that done at? And what are you having done? Me thinks you probably know some people at Performance Factory in NYC, they do a lot of supras. Let me know when you get that fuel pump out... I'm in no hurry though.

Joe

RanGer498

its being done at my close friends shop in NB new jersey

as for Performance Factory in NYC honestly they do really bad work
my friend took his car there a few months back and had them guys install about 3,000-3500 bucks or more worth or items(vpc, gcc, fcd, boostcontroler, safc, boost guage etc etc etc...) they also installed a turbotimer w/harness but did not hook up the ebrake part to the turbo timer ..i asked my friend why? he told me they an extra 20bucks to do this!

why so much when it only takes about 5mins(fast but not neat)and ten mins(slow but neat and with loom) tops to do this and less time since they had the center out! i did it for him but i dont see why i had too ..for all the money he spent there i would have done it for free if it was my shop!

another thing that was really bad for them to do was make a big ugly hole in his center holder to run a his apexi boost controler ..looked like they took a hammer and screw driver to make the hole ..i mean they could have used a dremel or a drill bit "like i did for mine " that came out really neat! but why go though all that time to do clean work when you can just "excuse the pun" bang it out quicker...
i dont recomend them at all a good speed shop in nj is bullish racing and prostore both in hackensack nj

also heard a few good things about bergen imports and if you need parts let me know your best price and ill see what i can do(aftermarket parts)!

Hey Al, you never said what your having done :D !?? Don't keep us in suspense :p

I will be needing the usual stuff for the talon I just bought... SAFC, HKS blow-off valve, EBC, 660 injectors, fuel pump, turbo back exhaust (probably the apex), 20g mitsu turbo, front-mount intercooler & plumbing(maybe spearco). Haven't decided whether I want to go external wastegate or not... those tial gates are like $500! I may wait to see if it has boost creep.

Bullish is an auesome shop, I know ara pretty well... Haven't been to PF yet, sad to hear they aren't doing good work. But... I'll let you know when I need that stuff and what prices I'm finding. I would like someone to do a package for me, but we'll see. Oh yeah... I need an alarm installed too ;) got any good hook-ups?

so who was the driver of the car with the camera? and was the viper just toying with them?

RanGer498

not sure who the driver was but he lost plain and simple the supra was a single turbo !

most guys dont understand the power this car has !

Respect the power of the supra... it is scary fast, specially with the single tubo conversion. my car is the awd, 1995 model. I'll let you know when I'm ready!! PM me your phone # when you get a chance.

That tial is cheap... I wonder why he's selling? it must have been doing some weird $hit on the dyno for them to take it off like that.
