Yesterday's non-story in the Detroit News alleging "racism" in Episode II has evoked a very strong reaction from Star Wars fans around the world. TFN's Josh Griffin and Chris Knight have shared their thoughts on the lunacy coming out of Detroit... and now it's your turn. TFN reader Jedi Kanigget tells us that the Detroit News' online mailbox is being SWAMPED with articulate, passionate responses to the hit-piece. Among them...
This has to be the most rediculous, stupidest article that I have ever had the misfortune to read. You'll be glad to know that people all around the world are shaking their heads at the ignorance of people like Martina Guzman. What a joke! (Matthew Anderson)
I cannot imagine that the critics quoted in this article could fail to notice the extreme amount of hypocrasy and racism that they displayed. "He looked totally Latino," says Martina Guzman about Temuera Morrison, the actor who plays Jango in "Attack of the Clones." What? No he didn't. Nor did he sound REMOTELY Hispanic in any way, shape, or form. Come to think of it, wouldn't that make Ms. Guzman a racist for essentially saying "all people with dark skin look alike"?... I wish she'd get down off her high horse (which has the world's largest blinders on) and look at the facts. "Jimmy Smits had all of two lines in the whole movie," Guzman says. "And Samuel Jackson had like five. Then there's the bad guy." While I can't say much about the comment made of Jimmy Smits, who I sincerely hope has more screen time in the next film because he's a good actor, I can ask this: How many bathroom breaks did you take, lady?!? Samuel Jackson was one of the most prominently featured actors in the movie, not to mention that he played an extremely adept warrior. (Mark)

These people really need to get a life. This is just a movie. Stop over analizing it. And get a real job. I'm tired of all this foolishness. (Gerry Michaud )

The comments you published by a "diverse" panel are ludicrous. These "panelists" are utter morons. Caught in a politically correct moment that is totally absurd and asinine... Baba? Try Boba. A vast left wing conspiritorial vowel game? A bounty hunter is a terrorist? Ever see a Steve McQueen movie? Did Jango stuff his face with tortilla's or drive a low riding spaceship with hydraulics with Santana on the interstellar boombox? I used blatant stereotypes to show the absolute absurdity of this really sickening article. These people need to deal with some major issues if a sci-fi, escapist adventure can pull thoughts like these out of thier sick, twisted, PC minds. (Steve Dunlop)

These people are over-reacting.However Mark's phrase "No he didn't. Nor did he sound REMOTELY Hispanic in any way, shape, or form" is 100% false.First of all its absolute.I wonder if he has ever seen a person with latin/hispanic/maxican genes...

I dont think the film wanted to offend anyone.Nevertheless we have seen in many Holywood films, certain types of bad guys look like Mexicans, and in general with latin/hispanic charateristics. This has happened,it is useless to deny it.The point is : are all these meaningless coincidences ?

Remember,...nothing is black or white.Only different shades of grey suround us...

I just think it was blown way out of proportion, starwars has always basically been color blind, in my view. But well people always want to shoot down whats popular

Umm... that is flippin' stupid!!!

I mean, if anything, the Jango Fett character was put up on a pedestal, because all of those "perfect warriors" that the cloners created were based on him!!!

And take a look at Lando Calrissian: he owned and ran Cloud City, and later became a general in the rebellion in the attack on the 2nd Death Star!

Besides color, Star Wars has been blind to race as well (I mean humanoid/non-humanoid lol.) Take a look at Admiral Ackbar - he led the raid on the 2nd Death Star. And Yoda, who is *green* is the Jedi master of all time!

:/

People need to get a clue.... Lol... Star Wars even has a "droids are people too" mentality!!

All this and they forget to notice that Yoda is clearly an effort to make fun of short, bald, green people with pointy ears. Nobody ever sticks up for their rights. Utter ****. I recognise that racism is a serious issue and a serious problem, but come on, really. Star Wars is escapist fun in the best tradition of the swash-buckling, western, and gladiator movies of old. Sit back, enjoy it, have fun and STOP looking for hidden messages about race and class structure.

May the Force by with you ;)

REMOVE THE HAIRY BEAST!!!

I can't wait for the SPECIAL Special Edition Episodes IV,V,VI where the magic of CGI will allow Chewie to be painted in as bald. Or at the very least, as a lanky female with a goatee. Ha!

DON'T READ ON IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!!!

OT: or kinda, anyway. Yoda ROCKED in this film. Yoda with the mad light sabre skillz. :jedi:
