Blade II director Guillermo Del Toro told SCI FI Wire that he won't helm the next installment, Blade III, because the shooting schedule will conflict with Del Toro's Hellboy project. "I will not do Blade III, because they're going to go at the same time," Del Toro said in an interview. "I had to choose, and I had no problem choosing." The director said the sequel would proceed without him.
Del Toro also said he will not co-produce the third Blade film, as many directors do on sequels to their films. "I don't believe in that kind of Hollywood attachments that just make the thing heavier," the director said. "I loved doing Blade II. I would have loved to do Blade III, but I'm going to see it in the theater."
