Hard choice between DS9 and TNG.
A competition between some really classic episodes with TNG and actually having a story line in the later DS9 series. In the end I have gone with DS9, moving the vote to even.

TNG for me. I had the hots for Dax in DS9 for ages, but I think the overall cast in TNG is better and stronger as a unit.
The Enterprise might not be as tecnologically advanced as Voyager, but I reckon Picard would outthink, outmanoevure and ultimately, outgun Janeway... (And she would probably jeapordise her entire crew yet again by overreacting!)

So far it's a no show for James T and Captain Archer. Kathy lags in third, still putting her face on no doubt, Sisko sits in second, that'll teach him to have a wimpy son, but streaking away is Jean Luc, despite Wesley Whimp-out Crusher.:D

Sisko - Bah. Garricks the top of the DS9 list.
he's just to snide, sneaky and well, me :) The episode where he is winding Worf up still cracks me up. I must have seen is a few dozen times, and I still break out in a fit of giggles.

Yeah but while she was over reacting and Picard was flappin his gums Kirk would come in and hand both of them their arses.
But I guess it depends on how you look at it. In a scrap I would want Kirk and crew, for diplomacy, Picard, for keeping me warm on those long winters nights, 7 of 9.

DS9 definitely does it for me. Great storyline and characterisation. At last the Federation gets interesting with that sectio 39 thing. Good special effects and I love the Defiant. TNG was good but in such a long time nothing much happened to the characters. I hate Janeway and her principles. I hate the way she goes 'take out their engines' and Tuvok does it with one phaser blast. I hate the way they can fix everything with a little tweaking of their tachyonwhatdoyacallitthingymijig.

Gotta agree with Squeaky on this one! DS9 was the best one as far as I am concerned! They are talking about a movie still, but nothing concrete has been worked out yet.

Actually like them all, each for different reasons that makes picking one out VERY hard... (but I am a hard core fan!!) but some of the scripting between: Quark n' Odo / Bashir n' Garak etc... was second to none ;) Combined with an on going script (in the later seasons) and some of the best space combat scenes in a TV show.... DS9 just takes it! It would be interesting to run another poll on Captains only and see how differently that would swing from this one???? :D

After this one I may just try that.:D Think I know the outcome of the winner but it's the rest of the order that would be interesting.

TNG for me all the way. Tough choice between DS9 but TNG wins out in my book.

OK,
I'm gonna be a wierdo, and vote for the origenal Star Trek.... :)
I like TNG, and some of the later episodes were very very good, but the early series were a bit duff, and that kind drags it down a bit.
DS9 was also good, but I will always compare it to B5, where I am sorry to say it loses out.
Voyager was blah.
Enterprise was boring me to tears before I gave up on it.
So that only leaves ol' Cap'n Jamey boy. I watched a couple of old Star Trek episodes on Sky on Saturday a few months ago. They are still pretty fun to watch, in a generally badly acted kinda way. I loved the episode were the Enterprise discovers the Romulans and they shoot the hell out of each other. It was almost like a precursor to films like "The Hunt for Red October" and "Crimson Tide". And whilst the scenery and FX aren't that impressive now, for the time they were mind blowing. I mean look at some of the back drops to the Star Trek scenes - they are pieces of art in and of themselves.
I think of I actually preferred the movies to the series though - Star Trek 1 was actually pretty good, 2 was even better, 3 was quite good, 4 was very funny, 5 well everyone has a bad day, 6 was good as well. Thats a sequence of 6 movies, with 5 good ones in them. Look through cinematic history and you won't find that common at all.
Anyway, ST the origenal was the first to boldly go. There definately ain't enough boldly going in these new Star Trek series..... :(
Fallguy
P.S. And yes, I know Enterprise is "boldly going", but they manage to make it sooooo boring. And how many times has Captain Archer got into a punch up, lost his shirt, then killed his enemy by improvising a gun with a bits of bamboo, charcoul and bat droppings? Huh?

For me B5 wins hands down over them all as well, same as for a few others here. For the Star Treks though it's TNG, took 2 seasons to get going..well I don't know it just seems to fit nicer into a mold than the others though I do like DS9 and Voyager. DS9 peaked from season 3 to 6 I think, later epsodes weren't the same for me but in all honesty I wasn't able to watch most of them or in order, and Voyager I missed anything past mid season 4. TOS is before my time however, and Enterprise is just something I keep hearing bad things about ;).
They all have their good points I think and most episodes of any/either/all I've found individually enjoyable.

Unlike most of you, my choice isn't between TNG and DS9... I never got to watch TNG when it was on, as I didn't have control of the clicker at that time. :(
So, I started my Trekking with DS9 mostly... and compared to DS9, I thought TNG looked... well, "quaint" is the word. Kind of like comparing TNG to the orgiginal Trek. Sure, TNG had some good stories. But the sets seemed, well, "sparse," and this reflected on the characters. A fitting setting for the Borg to make their first appearance.
I thought the film "Generations" and the subsequent movies did much greater justice to the characters and mythos than the series did. I guess that's mainly a function of rising budgets.
So, why DS9/Voyager? Well, I liked DS9 because it was a departure from the "boldly go" theme. It was like they were trying to "make it" where they had boldly ended up, which takes more work than getting there usually. :) I found the first season of DS9 to be the best season of any Trek... and then it went downhill, and I quit watching it. But, it got better in later years with a continuous story, and really DS9 created quite a mythology for itself.
Voyager was almost as good. I enjoyed the characters. The first season of Voyager was almost as good as the first season of DS9. But, ultimately it was just another "Oh, let's fly a ship around for a bit and see what happens" approach. :/
7 o' 9? :xohyes: But, ultimately, Kira Nerys is more my type, with those large brown doe eyes... ahhhh... (Troi is no eye-sore either ;) )
Babylon 5 was a better Space Opera though... And Farscape beats them handily.

TNG was what made all the rest possible and better.
It didnt have a big story that went on little by little like DS9 and B5 had,but it had some really good episodes.
It created a nice atmosphere.Sure the first 2 seasons were not so good, but we're talking many years back. You cant compare them with the respective seasons of DS9 or Voyager !
TNG had great characters.
DS9 : fisrt 2 seasons, you want to kill yourself ! But when it enters 3rd....the big story takes over and everything is getting better and better.Nice work.
Voyager : havent seen much of this, but a friend who saw all episodes, said it just has some really good episodes and nothing more.
B5 : was indeed better conceived overall. It was like a huge film that you could watch in little pieces.Great characters ,great story, nice Tolkien analogies :D
Hey have you seen the video clip (cg) with Star Wars , B5 and DS9 ships fighting it out ? :D

So the clear winner is Star Trek: The next Generation.
No suprises really but DS9 wasn't to far behind. JT and Kathy lagged badly and Jonathan is still in the stalls.
