Wildstorm's announcement of a Thundercats five-issue mini-series is just the latest in a growing string of nostalgia-based revivals of 1980s media properties. With G.I. Joe and Transformers comics doing big business it was only a matter of time before someone thought about reviving the Thundercats. The Thundercats began as an animated series that ran for several years in the early 80s. Marvel eventually published 24 issues of a Thundercats comic in its kiddie-oriented Star line, with the tear-stained last issue appearing in 1988.

Wildstorm is relaunching the Thundercats with two issues slated for August. The first issue, Thundercats #0 will contain a 12-page story written and illustrated by fan favorite J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girl), who will also provide the cover. The remainder of the issue will contain bios and an array of behind-the-scenes material. Two weeks after the appearance of Thundercats #0, the "real" mini-series will begin starting with Thundercats #1 featuring the creative team of Ford Gilmore, Ed McGuinness, and Jason Martin.

Yay!

I used to love Thundercats! Now I wonder if they will bring back Terrahawks! :)
